The Enormous Vastness by Lyn Graham & Paul Rees

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Road West End, Qld 4101 Australia (map)

Lyn Graham, En Route to Paris.

Lyn Graham and Paul Rees are painters and printmakers working in Whynot Studio in Brisbane’s West End. During the 2021 Covid lockdowns they travelled through outback Queensland. The Enormous Vastness is inspired by the ancient beauty of the landscapes they saw.

‘For many Australians, the outback is somewhere they fly over on their way overseas. They might look down from an inflight movie and marvel at the vastness of the continent but they do not really see the ancient beauty below. They might not even realise they are flying over the area where Qantas was born.’ – Lyn Graham

’South-west Queensland is arid, hard, beautiful. Vehicle tracks are ubiquitous. I started thinking of 4WDs in TV commercials as modern-day Ned Kellys roaming the landscape, as hard, dangerous and inscrutable as Sidney Nolan's outlaw.’ – Paul Rees

Paul Rees, Bring it On.
