Magandjin Creatives for Palestine welcomes you into the First Gathering, التجمع الأول.
A seed that has sprouted from the journey of transforming feelings of powerlessness and loss into 'tajamou3', an Arabic verb, the active act of coming together and uniting behind a shared cause.
The First Gathering marks the beginning of an ongoing initiative aimed at uniting Magandjin (Brisbane) creatives in a collective show of solidarity for Palestine. Fostering an enduring community of collective care and action, whilst each participant also embarks on their own creative projects in support of the cause.
The First Gathering responds to an urgent call-to-action to support Palestinian refugees arriving from Gaza on temporary visas. Magandjin creatives have answered this call, offering their creations as part of a fundraiser. Creations will be exhibited and sold at the event and via an online website. All proceeds will be donated to TAQWA, a grass-roots Palestinian run initiative which supports refugee families arriving from Gaza, and Mindle Bygul Aboriginal Corporation, who support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community of Deception Bay and surrounds.
The First Gathering is grounded in Palestinian voices, music, and food from across the Levant – a space that connects us together through truth-telling, hope, and action. We welcome you.
