Egg Shop – Drag Egg Portrait Painting Workshop

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Road West End, QLD, 4101 Australia (map)

Join us for a creative and empowering workshop where you’ll help preserve the vibrant history of Meanjin’s drag scene through painting ceramic egg portraits. Inspired by the Clown Egg Register (1947), this project honors the art of face painting and its significance in marginalized communities, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Just as the Clown Egg Register celebrates clown artistry, The Drag Egg Register highlights the makeup mastery of drag performers.

This workshop is an opportunity to contribute to an ongoing legacy, showcasing the beauty and resilience of queer voices. Participants will learn portrait painting techniques, choosing a Meanjin-based drag performer to depict on their egg. All materials are supplied, and artworks are yours to keep (sealed for pickup after the workshop).
