EBB & FLOW by April Giblin

  • Vacant Assembly 266 Montague Road West End, QLD, 4101 Australia (map)

Ebb and Flow will feature artworks from April's artist in residency and group exhibition at Nexus Culture in Nepal, Kathmandu (2020), along with her current body of work comprised of five large abstract paintings inspired by imagination, flow and chance. Each artwork is nature based and can be interpreted as topographical representations of land or sea. This exhibition concept aims to ignite the audience's imagination through the use of abstract forms constructed of vibrant colourfield compositions. The title Ebb and Flow represents the connection between ocean and land environments. It also invites ideas around entering a meditative mind state. The artworks were created in a ‘state of flow’, at times employing automatism to create unique landscapes with minimal conscious thought. A subconscious expression of creative impulses. The exhibition is about peoples’ engagement with the environment around them, provoking thought on subjective experiences of the physical world. Each painting challenges the viewer to create individual meaning as the series transforms from illuminated landscapes to organic forms.
