OUR PLACE YOUR PLACE

to sustain and celebrate collective well-being
(for people, place + planet)
we need intentional action.

Accessibility

The building is a bit old-school, so here are some important things you need to know regarding accessibility.

    • Entry into the main gallery, shopfront or barbershop is at ground level with no steps/ incline. All access points are wheelchair friendly.

    • The main toilet entry (in main gallery space) also has a rubber ramp for wheelchair friendly access.

    • There is 1 x toilet for the entire main gallery so make sure you get in line before you are busting (ask staff for extra toilet if an emergency)

    • The main toilet has a grab rail for disability support.

    • The second toilet is only available with staff permission and does not have disability friendly access.

caring for place

We have a responsibility to practice care for our context. That means daily actions that connect with a global awareness of our current + future ecosystems.

Each of the spaces throughout VA have been assembled using a minimum of 85% repurposed +/or recycled materials. Throughout the building you will see evidence of our re-use of waste, with hand-built elements which embrace imperfection.

If you have come to an exhibition, washed dishes in the kitchen, had a beverage at the bar, attended a workshop or bought a handmade ware… then you have experienced countless careful interventions that consider how elements within the space can be dismantled and reused in the future.

We recycle all our cans + bottles. All recyclable material from the kitchen, studios, exhibitions, and events is stored for collection by Community Recycle Advocate, Duncan. All proceeds go to supporting Duncan’s living costs.

We have two worm farms on-site which are used to compost all our kitchen waste (fruit/veg/coffee etc). Worm juice from our VA wrigglers provides added nutrition for the abundant plants + gardens around the building.

Once every couple of years we gather interested community members to help us craft another batch of handmade cups for exhibitions /events.

We have a no -plastic policy for event drinks so this is our way of bringing joy to sustainable actions - minimising waste while sipping from a beautiful hand-made cup each time you visit.
