Slow Session: Meditation, Ink, Tea


Join us at Vacant Assembly for a guided exploration of direct experience.

This workshop is designed to cultivate presence through the grounded practice of mindfulness meditation and the tactile flow of brush and ink, concluding with a shared tea tasting.

Hosted by John Lim & Cathleen Wing Kee, experienced mindfulness practitioners from Form/Empty.

The Flow of the Afternoon:

  • Arrival & Settling In

    Gather at the front of Vacant Assembly at 2:15 PM for a 2:30 PM start. Take a moment to transition into the space.

  • Welcome

    An introduction to the afternoon’s practice.

  • Foundations of Mindfulness Practice

    A brief discussion on the foundations of the practice, establishing the context for the afternoon.

  • Guided Meditation

    A 15-minute guided mindfulness meditation on the cushions, focusing on the breath.

  • Mindful Walking

    A slow, deliberate walking break to transition from stillness to action.

  • Introduction to Brushwork

    Guidance on Chinese ink painting.

  • Individual Art Practice

    A period of tactile focus. Participants will practice mark-making before completing a final piece of artwork.

  • Communal Assembly

    Individual pieces are brought together to form a single, shared artwork.

  • The Practice of Care

    A guided, mindful washing of the brushes.

  • Tea Tasting & Connection

    We will share tea, snacks, and conversation to close the afternoon.
